A major project — the complete interior renovation of a 5,400 sq ft Hillsborough estate, preserving the home's architectural character while updating every living space for how a modern family actually lives.
The owners of this Hillsborough estate had always loved the home's presence on the lot — the sweeping entry, the proportions, the mature landscaping that framed every window. But the interior had never kept up with what the exterior was promising. After more than twenty years in the home, they came to us with one clear direction: transform everything — without losing what made the house itself.
We led a comprehensive renovation across both floors. The first floor came first, and it started with some significant structural moves that fundamentally changed how the home works.
The original staircase sat dead center in the home, dividing the floor plan into disconnected quadrants that felt cramped. We relocated the stairs entirely — a real structural undertaking — which let us remove walls between the main living areas and create the open, connected plan the family had been living without.
The former master bedroom became the formal dining room. The old dining room and stairway area were folded into a larger living space. A new study, mudroom, and powder room completed the ground floor. Custom built-in cabinetry and a refined electric fireplace anchor the living room — functional and genuinely elegant without trying too hard.
The second floor was completely redesigned around how the family actually lives day to day. A calm primary suite, two well-proportioned kids' bedrooms, and an additional full bathroom — all built to the same standard of care and material quality as the rest of the home. Every finish was worked out closely with the owners, and it shows: the house feels unified from the moment you walk in.
What came out of it is a home that feels both entirely renewed and unmistakably itself: the proportions are right, the light is generous, and every room earns its place.
